The general term for esters of
acrylic acid and its homologues. The more important ones are methyl acrylate, ethyl acrylate, 2-methyl methacrylate and 2-ethyl methacrylate. It can self-polymerize or copolymerize with other monomers. It is a monomer for manufacturing adhesives, synthetic resins, special rubbers and plastics.
Classification
There are many brand names. According to the different crosslinking monomers contained in its molecular structure, the vulcanization system is different during processing. Therefore, acrylic rubber can be divided into chlorinated polyamine cross-linked and non-chlorinated polyamine cross-linked. There are five types: self-crosslinking type, ammonium carboxylate crosslinking type, soap crosslinking type. In addition, there are special acrylate rubbers, such as fluorine-containing and thermoplastic acrylate rubbers.
Performance
The performance of acrylate rubber is affected by the number of alkyl carbon atoms in its main monomer, alkyl acrylate. The rubber based on acrylate has better oil resistance and heat resistance; while the rubber based on butyl acrylate, due to the increase in the number of alkyl carbon atoms, the shielding effect on the polar group of the ester group is increased, so it is water resistant. The performance has been improved. At the same time, due to the shielding effect, the intermolecular force of the rubber is weakened and the internal plasticity is increased, so that the brittleness temperature is lowered and the cold resistance is better. If the above two monomers are used in combination, a rubber with intermediate properties can be obtained.
